Sunbirds

Meet the Purple Rumped SunBird (Male)
Marathi Name: Suryapakshi

That inspired me to pen this Haiku...

Like jewels shining
  glorious blue purple feathered
birds in the sun basking

And here is the
Female Purple Rumped SunBird

What you see here is an Immature/Juvenile Male

If you wish to know more about this cousin of the Humming Birds you can glean all the information from Wikipedia

My own observation is that these birds seem to love the nectar in the flowers of the Red Kapok Tree
This turned and tapering, long, thin beak enables them to suck the nectar from the flowers.
Its a beautiful sight to watch these tiny passerine birds bathing in the water collected in the big Aapta/ Kachnar leaves.

Lovely Sunbird pictures and love those colors nearer to a peacocks. You make it so interesting with all those fine details that I have turned into a bird watcher myself in the city of course where it is a rarity to see such exotic feathered friends :)

Its only been a year since my camera has been clicking these feathered beauties and I am really amazed at god's creativity. Like you put it, I had never imagined there are other birds flaunting the same beautiful shiny colours...:D
