Shutter Island

If you are a movie buff and long for movies with fantastic storylines then Shutter Island is your bite. This is one movie that keeps you glued, thinking and on the edge all throughout. This is certainly not a movie for those who believe that movies should be watched purely for relaxation and entertainment. Martin Scorsese has done it again! I was floored by his crime genre movie The Departed and he has left me speechless with Shutter Island. Leonardo Di Caprio and he have worked wonders again. The script is flawless and can’t be reviewed unless the movie is discussed at length. Set in the post World War II era, in 1954 U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels (Leonardo Di Caprio) and his comrade Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are investigating the escape of a patient from the federal maximum security hospital/ prison for the criminally insane called Ashcliffe Hospital. Rachel Solando seems to have just “evaporated through the walls” of her secure cell. This patient is a young woman who drowned all th...

Paa

Introducing Amitabh Bachchan say the credits. Indeed writer & Director R.Balki meticulously plans every angle of his movie like the great Ad-man that he is! Paa is a very rare Father-Son Son-Father story says Balki weaving the same tongue-in-cheek wise cracks into his script like the previous success 'Chini Kum'. Its truly entertaining to see how he used humour to have all of us fall for the little Auro. No strain of the movie harping on the boy's illness and yet making it a gripping tale! Kudos... Progeria is that rare genetic condition wherein aging is accelrated and manifests at a very early age. Those born with this condition typically live only upto 13 years of age.Full justice ha sbeen done to the character of Auro by none other than Bollywoods undeniable Badshah Amitabh Bachchan. No one must have imagined how age could have been used to the advantage while playing the role of a 10 year old! The role was so well-played to the hilt that one almost forgets that it...

‘Mirëmëngjes’

Image
Was wracking my brains for an eye-ball grabbing, big bang opening to this new-born blog and ‘Mirëmëngjes’ has done the trick I’m sure. In Indo-European Albania, the new mum wakes her little one with that, meaning ‘good morning!’. This reminds me of the latest flick that has clicked at the Bollywood Box-Office, ‘Wake Up Sid’. The story obviously revolves around Happy-go-lucky Sid Mehra (Ranbir K) and his muskmelon life. The movie- maker takes a dig at the ‘NOW’ generation when Sid takes his father Ram Mehra’s(Kher) hard-earned money and stoic presence for granted and is engrossed in having a whirlwind life. Ranbir’s chocolate face is the plus point in making his character believable. Aisha Banerjee (Konkana) is a hard-working and aspiring writer who has quit her blissful ‘Bong’ life for Mumbai, in search of independence and recognition. Konkana shoulders the complex role with her trademark poise. Tastefully cast in the role, she has successfully made her character a role model. He...
